Tutorial: Getting started with Home Manager for Nix
My opinion is that Home Manager provides a radically better way to manage a user’s environment for both packages and dotfiles, effectively allowing you to take a configuration as code approach. The goal of this post is to show you how to get started with Home Manager from scratch, install packages, port over some existing configuration and explore more advanced features.

How to configure Let's Encrypt SSL Certificates for Home Assistant completely 100% free (Updated for 2022/2023) - Configuration - Home Assistant Community
UPDATED 2/22/2023: It looks like Cloudflare may be preventing users from getting Let’s Encrypt certificates using domains that end in cf, .ga, .gq, .ml or .tk. In order to continue with a completely free solution, you may need to implement your own DNS server as described by the EFF (organization that created LE). Due to the complexity required, a new help document will need to be created and will likely be beyond the skills of the novice home user. I’m brand new to Home Assistant and was goi...

TIL: How to Fix VIA Permission Issues on Linux Recently I have been trying to configure my newish Keychron keyboard using VIA. To add a key to be able to take print screens, making use of the layers provided, as my Keychron Q1 PRO doesn’t have a dedicated print key 😓. However, when I opened the app or the website, I would get the following error. If we go to chrome://device-log you should be able to see something like this: Failed to open '/dev/hidraw9': FILE_ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED.

How to sync your Mastodon Bookmarks to Obsidian notes (RSS!)
How to sync your Mastodon Bookmarks to Obsidian notes (RSS!)

Copy the resulting URL. Now, set up a Shortcuts workflow, like so: “Get Items from RSS Feed” action: Pass in the RSS URL. “Repeat with each” action using the RSS items returned ...

Self-Hosted TRUST with your own Certificate Authority!
Self-Hosted TRUST with your own Certificate Authority!
TRUST. It’s what certificates are all about. How do we know that we can trust a server? We verify that the server has a certificate, and that the certificate is signed by someone we trust. That can be a well-known third party like Let’s Encrypt, or our own certificate authority. In this video, I’m going to cover the basics of setting up a root private key and signing certificates using OpenSSL, and running a certificate authority server.
