Downturn career decisions.
Downturn career decisions.
When I joined Yahoo In 2008, I received a small number of options. I don’t remember how many–it was very few–but I do know my strike price was roughly $16. I don’t remember that because my strike price was particularly lucrative, but rather because some of my coworkers would complain about their underwater strike prices in the $50s. Given the stock was trading at roughly $18, it was easy to understand why the folks on my team were a bit perturbed.

Decentralized Systems Don't Care
Decentralized Systems Don't Care
I like to remind my students that decentralized systems don't care what they (or anyone else thinks). The paradox is that they care very much what everyone thinks. We call that coherence and it's what makes decentralized systems maddeningly frustrating to understand, architect, and maintain.

Is Web3 the Future of the Internet? - Metaroids
Is web3 the future of the Internet? Or is it merely a buzzword used to lure unsuspecting investors to Ponzi schemes? We know that it’s worth at least hundreds of billions of dollars today and over a trillion during the crypto market’s peak. It is a budding but vibrant industry, involving millions of people across

The Religions of Aliens
The Religions of Aliens
In all taxonomies, there are lumpers and splitters. Lumpers tend to lump categories together, to find similarities, to say “these are really the same,” while splitters tend to say, no, these are different and need to be counted separately.  I’ve … Continue reading →

Why the Metaverse is an absolute shit show.
Good Job Zuckerberg. You've gone ahead and fucked up your company.br / br / The media storm surrounding the Facebook holding company’s branding as Meta and Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement of his vision of the metaverse has been astronomical in the year 2021. It’s been a bad year or two for the company, with several news stories throwing some of the company’s more dubious practices into the spotlight and concerns continue to abound about privacy and data protection around the company, however it’s rebranded.
